Gamecocks Duke It Out on Day Two
ATLANTA, GA—No. 16 South Carolina men’s tennis was back in action this morning at the Georgia Tech MLK Invitational Tournament. On the second day of the round-robin event, the Gamecocks picked up six wins, including one ranked victory.
In doubles, the Gamecocks split the four matches, with senior Paul Jubb and freshman Connor Thomson knocking off Illinois’ Aleks Kovacevic and Alex Bancila 6-3. Redshirt freshman Phillip Jordan and Jake Beasley defeated Siphosothando Montsi and Fletcher Scott 6-4.
In singles, sophomore Raphael Lambling defeated No. 48 Montsi in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 for his fourth ranked singles win of the year. Jordan continued his recent hot streak, winning his 11th match of the young season 7-6, 6-4 over Scott. Pelletier picked up his ninth victory of the year. Beasley notched the final win of the day, defeating Vuk Budic 6-4, 6-2.
A pair of matches when to third sets, including Pelletier who rallied back after dropping the opening set. Five sets in singles were decided by tiebreaks.
