Heather Hinz Selected to the Houston Dash in 2024 NWSL Draft
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz was selected 38th overall in the third round in the 2024 NWSL Draft to the Houston Dash, joining fellow Gamecocks Ryan Gareis and Jyllissa Harris.
Hinz’s selection marks the fifth NWSL pick in program history and the third consecutive pick to the Houston Dash.
The fifth-year continued her excellence in front of the net in her final season as a Gamecock, tallying 10 shutouts (six in conference play) to bring her to a career total of 32, placing her at the solo No. 3 spot in the South Carolina record books. Against Texas A&M (10/19) Hinz finished the game with a season-high of nine saves on the night – the third most saves in a game in the conference in 2o23. Hinz then began a four-game clean sheet streak, beginning with Ole Miss (Oct. 13) and continuing against Texas A&M, Georgia, and Florida.
Hinz finished at the No. 1 spot in the conference for shutouts (10, fifth-most in the country), overall save percentage (.864, 27th in NCAA) and goals against average (.500 in SEC, .632 overall for the No. 24 spot in the nation), and was named the SEC Goalkeeper of the Year, All-SEC First Team, and Co-Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 23). Hinz’s Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team honor was the first for a South Carolina keeper since Mikayla Krzeczowski in 2019.
