Gamecocks Announce 2020 Spring Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer team unveiled its 2020 spring schedule Monday, announcing four matches, including an exhibition with the two-time defending NWSL Champion North Carolina Courage in Cary, N.C.

The Gamecocks begin the spring slate with a match against a 2019 NCAA Tournament team in Duke on Feb. 22. Carolina will play the match with the Blue Devils at Stone Stadium, with admission free to the public. The time of all matches will be released at a later date.

Carolina will take a month break during the spring before they get back to action against SEC-rival Georgia on March 21 at home. Georgia finished the 2019 season with an 8-7-4 record and a 4-3-3 record in the SEC. The Bulldogs fell to the Gamecocks twice in 2019, including during the Gamecocks run to the SEC Tournament Championship in Orange Beach, Ala.

A week later, the Gamecocks will travel up to Cary, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Courage. Gamecock fans may be familiar with the squad as multiple former Carolina women’s soccer players have played with the Courage, including current defender Kaleigh Kurtz, who won a championship with the team last season. Former Carolina standout Sabrina D’Angelo also was with the team during its 2018 championship season before transitioning to a professional team in Sweden. The Gamecocks’ match with the professional squad will not be played at Sahlen’s Stadium at Wakemed Soccer Park, but at a nearby practice field.

South Carolina wraps up its spring slate with a match against College of Charleston at home on April 5. The Gamecocks had their matchup with the Cougars cancelled due to weather in 2019.

Last season, the Garnet and Black reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for the third time in four seasons and won the 2019 SEC Tournament Championship. The Gamecocks won 19 matches and ended the season with an undefeated SEC record for the third time in four seasons.
