South Carolina seeking its first win in Knoxville since 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (17-3, 5-2 SEC) hits the road for a pair of SEC games this week. First up is another top-10, midweek test at No. 5/5 Tennessee (15-4, 5-1 SEC) on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks are then at Georgia (14-6, 4-3 SEC) on Saturday.
Tip-off between Carolina and UT is set for 6:30 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network with Tom Hart (pxp), Dane Bradshaw (analyst) and Alyssa Lang (reporter) on the call.
The Gamecocks are seeking their first win in Knoxville since January of 2017. The Vols have won 10 of the last 11 games in the series.
Both teams enter Tuesday’s conference clash on winning streaks, Carolina posting three-straight league wins and Tennessee notching four-straight league victories. The Vols are led by transfer Dalton Knecht who averages 19.5 points per game. Over his last five outings, Knecht is averaging 32.0 points per game while shooting 54.9 percent from the floor, including a 47.2 percent (17-of-36) clip from behind the arc.
It’s a battle of two of the top defensive teams in the SEC and the nation. The Gamecocks have the top-ranked scoring defense in the SEC, allowing just 64.5 points per game. Carolina has not allowed a team to score 80 points yet this season. Tennessee has the fourth-best scoring defense in the league at 66.1 points per game allowed. The Vols have the best field goal percentage defense in the conference (ranked fourth in the nation), allowing just 37.7 percent shooting by their opponents.
