Gamecocks Reveal Spring Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C.— South Carolina men’s tennis head coach Josh Goffi revealed the 2020 schedule, which features seven matches against teams that finished ranked in the final top-25 rankings last year.

“We are excited to work through the flow of our schedule,” said Goffi. “The team will be tested early on by some of the best teams in the country giving us a great barometer prior to the SEC season. Our team goals have been set and this schedule provides plenty of opportunities to achieve them.”

The Gamecocks will open their non-conference slate with back-to-back double headers, facing The Citadel twice and then Charlotte and USC Upstate. From there, the team will head to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech MLK event Jan. 17-23.

After returning home from Atlanta, the team will head to Starkville for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, where they will face Oklahoma and the winner of Mississippi State-Georgia.

In February, the Gamecocks will, take on North Carolina and Palmetto Series rival Clemson before heading to Chicago for the National Team Indoor Championships. The team will finish out the month against Georgia Tech and Auburn.

March will see the Gamecocks begin a loaded conference schedule, hosting Alabama before traveling to Texas A&M and LSU, who finished 14th and 48th in last year’s final rankings. The Gamecocks will then defend home court against Tennessee and Georgia, before swinging down to Mississippi to take on last year’s SEC Tournament Champion Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The team will close out March at home against NC State and Arkansas.

In the final month of the season, the Gamecocks will travel to Kentucky and Vanderbilt before defending home court one last time against Florida. The Gamecocks will then head to Fayetteville for the 2020 SEC Tournament. Last year, the Gamecocks reached the semifinals of the SEC Tournament for the second time in program history.

The Gamecocks’ current roster finished a combined 56-32 (.636) in singles and 13-10 (.565) in doubles this fall. Sophomore Daniel Rodrigues, sophomore Raphael Lambling and freshman Connor Thomson were ranked in the final ITA singles rankings while the teams of Rodrigues and Lambling, and junior Thomas Brown and sophomore Beau Pellitier were ranked in doubles.
