Barry Called Up to U.S. U-20 Squad for Friendlies

COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina women’s soccer signee Catherine Barry has been named to the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team for a pair of international friendlies. U.S. head coach Mark Carr has called in 34 players for the tournament who will be split into two squads for games at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

All five tournament matches will be streamed live on ussoccer.com, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Barry will play on the USA-Red squad who play Wed., Dec. 11, at 3:30 p.m. against France and Fri., Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m. against Brazil.

Barry, who signed on Nov. 12, will join the Gamecocks in 2020 as a part of a loaded signing class. Barry’s call up adds to her long list of accomplishments she brings into South Carolina. A Hinham, Mass., native, is a four-star prospect according to TopDrawerSoccer.com and is a three-time All-American.

“I chose South Carolina because of the sense of pride and community I felt,” Barry said when she signed with the Gamecocks. “I knew it was somewhere I could be pushed not only athletically, but academically and personally as well. The family atmosphere within the program and the prioritization of female athletics within the university sealed the deal.”

Barry is the first Gamecock to be named to a U-20 squad since Grace Fisk was named to England’s squad in 2018 for the U-20 World Cup. Barry is also the first player since Savannah McCaskill to be named to the U-20 U.S. squad.

The matches for the U-20 squad serve as preparation for February’s Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship to be held in the Dominican Republic.
