No. 15/20 Gamecocks Welcome Rebels Tuesday Night
Fans encouraged to wear white ; South Carolina seeking to win sixth-straight SEC game for first time since 1996-97 season
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 15/20 South Carolina (19-3, 7-2 SEC) is at home for a pair of games this week at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks first will face Ole Miss (18-4, 5-4 SEC) Tuesday night in a battle of two teams in the top-five of the SEC standings.
Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. (ET) at Colonial Life Arena with Roy Philpott (pxp) and Jimmy Dykes (analyst) on the call.
Fans are encouraged to wear white as the game has been deemed a whiteout.
The Gamecocks have won five-straight SEC games and will look to win six-straight league games for the first times since the 1996-97 season, when the team won 11-straight conference matchups en route to the programs first and only SEC Championship.
Head coach Lamont Paris’ next win will give him the most victories in program history by a head coach in his second season. He’s currently tied with George Felton (1987-88) for the most second-year victories at 19 wins.
South Carolina reentered the top-25 today in both major polls for the first time since Feb. of 2017.
The Rebels have gotten off to a nice start under first year head coach Chris Beard. They’ve spent time in the top-25 and went 13-0 in the non-conference portion of their schedule. Matthew Murrell (16.8 ppg) and Jaemyn Brakefield (12.0 ppg) returned from last year’s team and are averaging double figures. The Rebels also welcomed in a pair of talented transfers in Allen Flanigan (15.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.0 apg) from Auburn and Jaylen Murray (15.3 ppg, 4.2 apg) from Saint Peter’s.
