South Carolina seeking to win its eighth-straight SEC contest and snap a five-game losing streak to the Tigers
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 11/11 South Carolina (21-3, 9-2 SEC) heads west on the plains to face No. 13/12 Auburn (19-5, 8-3 SEC) in a top-25 battle on Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network with Kevin Fitzgerald (pxp) and Jon Sundvold (analyst) on the call.
The Gamecocks are seeking the team’s eighth straight SEC victory, the longest active win streak in the league currently and the program’s longest SEC win streak since starting the 1996-97 season 11-0 in conference games. Carolina is 4-1 in league play on the road this season, the highest win percentage away from home in the SEC.
The Tigers have won five-straight in the series dating back to a pair of wins during March of 2018.
The Gamecocks are currently tied atop the SEC Standings with No. 15/15 Alabama and Auburn sits just one game back in third.
The Tigers, who are a perfect 12-0 at Neville Arena this season, are talented across the board and are led by All-SEC performer Johni Broome, who averages 16.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per contest. Jaylin Williams lines up next to Broome in the front court and averages 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Both players shoot the ball above 50.0 percent. Auburn has balanced attack with seven players who average 7.0 or more points per game.
They currently rank 11th in the country in scoring margin at +15.2 points per game and are third in the nation in field goal percentage defense, allowing just 38.1 percent per game for opponents. The Tigers are 12th in the nation in assists per game (17.8) and seventh in blocks per game (6.0).
