Gamecocks Ready for Landfall Tradition

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team hits the links for the last time this fall when it heads to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the Landfall Tradition. The three-round tournament gets started on Friday on the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall.

Setting the Scene

When the Gamecocks hit the par-72, 6,140-yard course in Wilmington they’ll face yet another loaded field. This year’s Landfall Tradition field includes Alabama, Florida State, Furman, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, UCF, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and the host school, UNC Wilmington.

This marks the 10th consecutive year Carolina has competed in the Landfall Tradition. At the 2018 edition of the tournament the Gamecocks took second out of the 18 teams, the best finish for the squad since winning it in 2016.

Autumn Honors

Since the last time the Gamecocks hit the course some honors and rankings dropped. Freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard made the cut for the Fall ANNIKA Award Watch List comprised of the 15 best women’s collegiate golfers in the nation. In the first NCAA player rankings of the season Roussin-Bouchard found herself tied for 14th place with fellow Gamecock Lois Kaye Go. Sophomore Emily Price also made waves, coming in at 38th place in the rankings.

Last Time Out

The Garnet and Black took seventh at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, bolstered by Lois Kaye Go’s ninth place 3-under. Carolina hit a rough patch on the first day of the tournament, shooting a 5-over 293 to open the event. The Gamecocks made up a lot of ground on the second day, going 8-under for the day, but soggy conditions made the final day a messy affair and Caroline shot an even-par 288 to finish the tournament in seventh place.
