No. 5 Gamecocks Round Out Regular Season with 15-3 Win Over SDSU

BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The No. 5 South Carolina Equestrian team (7-6) finished the 2023-24 regular season at home on Friday, taking down South Dakota State University 15-3 at One Wood Farm. The Gamecocks swept all four available MOPs.

The Gamecocks got things started on the Flat, with Natalie Jayne grabbing the first point of the day with a 90-80 win over Cali Karbler on Barnany. Sarah Rabb followed suit, posting an 89-77 victory on Schnitzel against Virginia Klecker. South Carolina kept the points rolling with Mary Hunter Millet (91-88 over Hannah Steele on Murphy) and Sophie Mitchell (93-87 on Lenny). Mitchell’s 93 was the highest score on the Flat this season, and the second-highest Flat score in program history, helping her earn an MOP for her ride. The Gamecocks took the event over the Jackrabbits 4-1.

Over in Reining, Mattie McNeill earned the first point of the event with her 70.5-67 win over Adisyn Kuxhaus on Chexie, grabbing the MOP for the event. Emilia Reutimann grabbed her point 70-67.5 on Kinzie against Brighton McBride, followed by Chloe Stephenson defeating Shelby Cochran on Magnum 69.5-65. Chloe VanStone tied her ride on TJ with Paige Butterfield 69-69. South Carolina pulled out with a 3-1 victory in Reining.

After the first half, the Gamecocks earned a 4-1 win in Fences, seeing points from Grace Rabb (72-40 on Dento), Bella Primavera (85-84.5 on Nano), Alexa Aureliano (87-0 on Schnitzel), and Jordan Allen (83-79 on Rio). Natalie Jayne fell to Julia Werkhoven in a tight battle, 81-84 on Dexter to round out the event.

The meet finished up with Horsemanship, with South Carolina sweeping the Jackrabbits 4-0. Kiersten Beckner earned her point ono Chubby with a 69-0 win over Brighton McBride, while Jordyn Humbert tied 71.5-71.5 with Paige Wellendorf on Houdini. Carly Jenkins picked up where the Gamecocks left off, defeating Annika Hanson 73.5-71 on Sparky. Freshman Julia Lee then tallied her first career win on Paddy, defeating Shelby Cochran 71.5- 68. Tierney Horton brought things to a close with her 69-52 win on Z against Grace Gerbus, earning an MOP for her ride.
