Men’s Tennis Announces 2020 Signing Class

COLUMBIA, S.C.—  South Carolina men’s tennis head coach Josh Goffi revealed two new Gamecocks as the team officially announced its 2020 signing class. Carter Morgan from Jacksonville, Fla., and Toby Samuel of Bournemouth, England, both signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks.

“Throughout the recruiting process, both of these guys have shown that they will fit right into our culture and hold themselves to the standards of the program,” Goffi said. “I love the fact that they both have big games and are hungry to get better.”

Samuel, who reached the doubles semifinals of the Junior Wimbledon Championships, has a career-high ranking of 129 in the ITF Juniors. The Englishman has a UTR rating of 13 and was the runner up of the ITF Juniors J3 tournament in Istanbul.

Morgan is the No. 85 ranked recruit in the U.S. by tennisrecruiting.net. The Jacksonville native is a four-star recruit and the 10th overall recruit in the state of Florida. Morgan has 13 wins against five-star players.

The Gamecocks’ current roster of two freshmen, four sophomores and one junior finished a combined 56-32 (.636) in singles and 13-10 (.565) in doubles in their fall schedule.
