Gamecocks Announce Captains for 2019 Season

Seniors Koch and Milazzo Join Fisk as Captains

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s soccer program announced its three captains for the 2019 season Thursday. Grace Fisk, the Gamecocks’ 2018 captain, will be joined by seniors Becky Koch and Tatumn Milazzo in their role during the 2019 season.

“It’s really exciting to be named captain,” Milazzo said. “It’s an honor to be able to lead such a good group of people. It won’t change anything I do, because you should be a leader, without a title. I just think I need to keep doing what I’ve been doing, and I’m going to do alright as a captain of this team.”

Milazzo has started 42 matches with Carolina and has played in 66, including starting every match during the run to the College Cup in 2017. Last season Milazzo scored two goals for the Gamecocks, including a gamewinner against Georgia. She was named to the All-Southeast Region Second Team in 2018 and was an All-SEC selection in 2017.

“A good leader is someone who can be vocal, who people can look up to,” Koch added. “Someone that sets a standard and leads on the field. You don’t have to be a goal scorer to be a captain. I like how Grace [Fisk], Tatumn [Milazzo] and I are players who like to communicate from the back, and I think that’s why it will work well with us this year. Becoming a captain is something I’ve always wanted to work toward,” Koch said. “It is just going to push me to be even better.”

As a leader both on and off the field, Koch brings leadership to a young Carolina midfield that includes many underclassmen. Koch started all 21 matches in 2018, and has played in 47 in her Gamecock career. She was named to the SEC All-Tournament team in 2018 and has been on multiple SEC Academic Honor Rolls.

Entering as the two-time defending SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Fisk aims to end her Carolina career in style in 2019. The senior, and two-time All-American has already been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, an annual honor that recognizes the top women’s soccer player in NCAA Division I.
