Three Gamecocks Named to NCEA Ariat All-America Teams

WACO, Texas – Three Gamecocks have been named Ariat All-Americans, as announced by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) on Tuesday. Sophomore Mary Hunter Millet (Flat), junior Sophie Mitchell (Flat), and senior Emilia Reutimann (Reining) were selected. The three honorees were the most for Gamecock Equestrian since the 2020 season.

The top five riders per event were selected and named the Ariat First-Team All-America by the NCEA Selection Committee. The next five riders per event earned Second Team honors.

Mary Hunter Millet

Mary Hunter Millet had a standout season on the Flat for the Gamecocks this year, tallying a 9-4-1 record, with five coming against Top-10 ranked teams. The sophomore had a dominant fall, going undefeated (4-0-0) through the Gamecocks’ first four meets.

Millet earned her first career MOP against the No. 4 ranked Auburn Tigers, taking down Alex Ryden in a five-point win (83-78) to help South Carolina defeat Auburn for the first time in 10 seasons. Her only tie of the season came in the SEC Championships, earning a 91.33 against Georgia for the second-highest score of the day in the event. Her nine wins set a new career-high for Millet in a season, and are the third-most ever for a sophomore in the South Carolina record books.

This is the first NCEA All-America honor of Millet’s career.

Sophie Mitchell

Sophie Mitchell made starts in 16 meets for the Gamecocks on the Flat, posting a team-high 11 wins. Her 11 victories not only lead her fellow Flat riders, but are the most across all disciplines. The junior has secured four MOPs throughout the season, including one against SEC foe No. 4 Auburn (Feb. 3) to help the Gamecocks beat the Tigers for the first time in 10 years. To round out the regular season, Mitchell posted a season and team-high of 93 against SDSU, marking a new career-high and the second-highest score on the Flat in program history.

At the SEC Championship, Mitchell went undefeated (2-0-0), averaging an 85.65 and a 3.65 winning margin. Mitchell’s 11 wins (so far) marks the third-most for a junior in program history on the Flat.

Mitchell was named the SEC Flat Rider of the Month for October, and earns the first NCEA All-America honor of her career.

Emilia Reutimann

Emilia Reutimann opened up the season dominating in Reining, going undefeated in the Gamecocks’ first 5 meets (4-1-0) and finishing out the fall with a 6-1-1 record. Reutimann’s 10 wins (6 against Top-10 ranked opponents) leads the event and are the second most on the team out of all disciplines. The senior’s season-high of 71.5 against No. 1 TCU was the second-highest score of the season for the Gamecocks, and she accomplished the same score against the No. 2 ranked Aggies of TAMU (Feb. 10). Her 10 victories are a career-high for her in a season, and currently sit at the No. 3 spot in the South Carolina record books for most wins as a senior (in Reining).

This is the first NCEA All-America honor for Reutimann’s career.
