No. 22 South Carolina Takes Fourth at Graeme McDowell Inv.

Senior Caleb Proveaux T-2nd with a 54-hole total of 210 (-6)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — No. 22 South Carolina finished fourth at the 2019 Graeme McDowell Invitational on Tuesday. The Gamecocks shot a field-best 281 (-7) in the final round to move up a spot on the leaderboard. Carolina’s four counting scores combined to make five eagles in the last round.
 
Senior Caleb Proveaux continued his standout play, firing his second-straight round in the 60s with a 3-under 69. He was lights out today with just one bogey. The Lexington, S.C., native, carded a 68 (-4) in the second round on Monday. Proveaux notched a career-best T-2nd finish, ending the tournament with a 54-hole total of 210 (-6).
 
Freshman Jack Wall paced the Gamecocks in the final round, carding a career-best 68 (-4). The Brielle, N.J., native, had five birdies and an eagle. He was bogey free on the back nine, carding a 4-under 32. Wall T-35th at 5-over for the tournament.
 
Sophomore Ryan Hall bounced back from a tough first day with a 2-under 70, his first under par round of the year. The 2019 PING All-Southeast Region selection made the turn at 1-over, but dialed it in on the back nine where he was bogey free with three-straight birdies on holes 11-13. Hall T-38th with a 54-hole total of 222 (+6). Senior Jamie Wilson also T-38th at 6-over. He shot 74 (+2) in the final round with a pair of eagles on his scorecard today.
 
Junior Jack Parrott logged a 77 (+5) in round three. He T-42nd at 7-over. Sophomore Harry Corbin, who was playing as an individual this week, shot 74 (+2) today to finish his 2019 debut T-74th at 15-over.
 
NOTABLE
• Proveaux had just three bogeys over his final 36 holes with eight birdies and an eagle. He led the team with 11 red numbers this week.
• Today marked Proveaux’s third top-five in 25 career starts.  
• South Carolina had seven eagles to lead the tournament field.
• The Gamecocks had nine top-five finishes in 13 events during the 2018-19 season, T-2nd most in program history. Carolina remains on pace to match or better that feat with top-five showings in each of the team’s first two events this season.
 
UP NEXT
Carolina makes its first ever appearance at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate next week (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) in Sapphire, N.C. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 in the final round Tuesday. Western Carolina is the host school for the event, which is taking place at The Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
