Samuel, Hoole Earn Bids to NCAA Singles & Doubles Tournaments
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis senior Toby Samuel and junior Casey Hoole earned at-large bid to the NCAA Doubles Tournament together. Samuel also earned a bid to the NCAA Singles Tournament as the No. 5 overall seed.
For Samuel, this is his second consecutive season with a bid to the singles tournament and second as a seeded entry. In 2023, Samuel was slated to make his tournament debut as the No. 10 seed but had to withdraw due to illness.
This season as the No. 5 seed, Samuel is the third Gamecock to make the tournament as a top-5 seed. He is preceded in the honor by Paul Jubb (2019) and Daniel Rodrigues (2021, 2022).
The last Gamecock to enter the NCAA Singles Tournament as the No. 5 seed was Jubb in 2019 who went on to win the tournament, becoming the first Gamecock to ever win the event.
Samuel will accompany Hoole in his NCAA Doubles Tournament debut as the duo earned an at-large bid to the tournament. Samuel also competed in the tournament in 2023 alongside Connor Thomson as the No. 1 overall seed but the duo fell in the Round of 32.
The 64-man singles event and the 32-team doubles event will be held in Stillwater, Okla., with singles beginning on May 20 and doubles beginning on May 21.
The singles and doubles tournaments will begin after the conclusion of the team tournament. The Gamecocks also earned an at-large bid to the team tournament and will face Old Dominion in the first round on May 3 in Raleigh, N.C.
