South Carolina seeking its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2019 this week in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. – South Carolina is in the Red Stick for the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, which begins on Monday at University Club near the campus of LSU. It marks the 15th all-time NCAA Regional appearance under head coach Bill McDonald and 30th overall in program history.
Teams will play 54-holes of stroke play at the six regional sites across the country May 13-15 with the top-five teams and top individual on non-advancing teams punching their tickets to the NCAA Championship.
This year’s championship will take place at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. May 24-29. It will be the first of three NCAA finals hosted by Texas at the west coast course.
Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris remains in the top spot in the lineup. The Boca Raton, Fla., native has been the team’s low finisher in seven of 10 stroke play starts this season. Junior Nathan Franks makes his long-awaited return from injury. The three-year starter has won twice this spring as he will play in his first tournament since winning the Schenkel Invitational by three shots back on March 17. Sophomore Zach Adams and Bo Carpenter will make their NCAA Regional debuts this week.
Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins is the five man this week, and senior Rafe Reynolds will serve as the team’s substitute.
Carolina will be seeking its ninth trip to the NCAA Championship and first since 2019 under McDonald this week. The team has made 22 overall appearances in the NCAA Championship.
The Gamecocks are the No. 10 seed in a field that features five top-25 teams led by the top-ranked Auburn Tigers, the No. 1 overall seed after being crowned SEC Champions. LSU from the SEC is also in the Baton Rouge Regional field on its home golf course.
