Rodrigues Plays in World University Games

COLUMBIA, S.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis rising Sophomore Daniel Rodrigues continued the program’s summer success overseas, representing his native country of Portugal at this year’s World University Games. Rodrigues is the second Gamecock in five years to participate in the Games, following Thiago Pinheiro, who represented Brazil in 2015.

“All of this has been an unbelievable experience” Rodrigues said, “It is like playing in a professional tournament with all of the referees and ball kids; it feels great. I couldn’t be happier to represent my nation and be a part of this fantastic experience.”

The Funchal, Portugal, native played in both the singles and doubles tournaments. Rodrigues won his first singles match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 after receiving a first-round bye, before to falling in the round of 32. In double, Rodrigues partnered with fellow countryman and SEC rival Martim Prata of the University of Tennessee. The SEC duo went 1-1 in the tournament.
