Go Named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

First Carolina Women's Golfer to Win Award Since 2006.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina junior golfer Lois Kaye Go has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Tuesday night. Go is the first Gamecock to win the award since 2006 (Whitney Simons).

The junior has excelled in the classroom at South Carolina. As a Finance/Accounting major, Go has posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average and was a part of the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2017-18. She’s also had an impact in the community, working on projects such as First Tee of Columbia, Harvest Hope, Build-A-Bike and more.

“LK excels in the classroom and on the golf course,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor is very well deserved. She works extremely hard at her academics in a very challenging major, as well as is very dedicated to her golf and this team. I’m proud of her efforts and accomplishments.”

A native of Cebu City, Philippines, Go has put together one of the best individual seasons on the golf course in 2018-19. Her 72.77 stroke average this season is sixth best in program history and her 72.58 career stroke average at South Carolina is the second lowest in program history, just behind Katelyn Dambaugh (2013-17) at 72.55.

Go has also been selected to take part in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup, a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top university/college golfers from the United States and internationally. She captured the 2019 Philippine Amateur back in January and also won a gold medal with the Philippines at the 2018 Asian Games back in August.

Go is currently ranked at No. 24 in the Golfstat individual rankings, and has helped the Gamecocks to a No. 10 team ranking. Just last week, Go aided the Gamecocks in their first team victory of the season at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, the first match-play event victory in program history.

This week, the Gamecocks will be taking part in the 2019 SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., at Greystone Country Club. The stroke and match-play event begins on Wed., April 17 and concludes on Sun., April 21.
