Gamecocks Find Equalizer Late Against Buckeyes, Remain Undefeated
COLUMBUS, OH – No. 21 South Carolina women’s soccer (2-0-1) found an equalizer in the final minutes of play to stay undefeated after tying 1-1 with No. 16 Ohio State (3-0-1) on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first 45 minutes was a hot and all-out defensive battle between both teams, with the Gamecocks making two shots on goal to the Buckeyes’ three
- South Carolina took two corners in the first half, while Ohio State took six, but neither team was able to nab the set piece to keep things 0-0 heading into the locker room
- At the 70-minute mark in the second half, Ohio State’s Ella Giannola (Jadin Bonham) was able to find the back left corner of the net to put the Buckeyes on top 1-0
- With just five minutes remaining, the Gamecocks set up a free kick with Hallie Meadows, but a deception from Meadows allowed sophomore Cuyler Zulauf to bank one in the top right corner for her first career goal and the 1-1 equalizer
- Junior keeper Tina Tsaousis had several monstrous saves, recording seven on the day to mark a new career-high
