Gamecocks Set for Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 4, 2024) – South Carolina Cross Country is set to compete on Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky. at 10:15 a.m. at the 23rd Annual Live in Lou Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville. The 5K race will be run at Tom Sawyer State Park.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS
The Gamecocks will face 31 other teams this weekend in the women’s race, including in-state rivals Clemson. The Tigers have received votes in the National Coaches Poll and currently sit ranked fifth in the Southeast Region. The Gamecocks will face another handful of Top 15 Southeast teams including Louisville, Kentucky and Charlotte who are ranked 7th, 12th and 14th respectively. South Carolina enters the weekend slated 13th in the region.

GAMECOCK RUNNERS
The Gamecocks will be taking 16 runners to Live in Lou, with just seven returners from last year’s squad and nine freshmen. South Carolina comes off a runner-up finish in the Furman Invitational behind nationally ranked Furman. Headlining the squad is freshman Teresa Cherotich who claimed an individual win at the Furman Invitational in a time of 20:21.1, the third-fastest 6K in Gamecock history. She was also named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week following her second collegiate race. Fellow freshman Cate Conklin turned in a time of 21:55.1 to finish second for Carolina and 14th overall. Her time also ranks 27th fastest in Gamecock history.

The sophomore duo of Anya Arroyo (22:00.1) and Emma Torbert (22:00.8) and freshman Abigail White (22:13.6) rounded out the scorers for the Garnet & Black finishing 16th, 17th and 18th respectively. Freshman Siobhan Joyce is the lone runner of the squad set for her collegiate debut, meanwhile Sylvia Chelangat, Hattie Jennings and Lily Weeks will be making their season debuts.
