Cardiac Collins - Freshman Finds Equalizer in Final Minute Against Commodores
NASHVILLE, TN – The No. 24 Gamecocks (5-1-5, 2-1-1) head home coming off a heart-stopping 1-1 draw against Vanderbilt (5-2-5, 0-2-3 ) Friday night.
- The Commodores got on the board early, scoring just 36 seconds into play off a shot by Vanderbilt’s Sydney Watts that snuck into the bottom left corner of the net
- South Carolina was quick to take back possession, taking eight chances throughout the remainder of the second half to the Commodores’ four
- The Gamecocks took six corners in the first 45 minutes but were unable to connect to find the equalizer
- The two teams looked nearly identical in the second half, with South Carolina taking six shots to Vanderbilts’ seven
- In the final minute of the game, rookie Katie Shea Collins took advantage of Commodore keeper Kate Devine coming out, ricocheting a shot off Devine to tie the game up and earn a point on the road
- The goal was Collins’ sixth of the season, the second-most on the team
