No. 23 Gamecocks Gator-Done Against Florida, 2-0

COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 23 South Carolina women’s soccer team (6-1-5, 3-1-1) pulled off a late second-half win against the Florida Gators (4-4-5, 1-3-1) Thursday night, earning them another three points in conference play.

The first half saw multiple opportunities for South Carolina, including a shot that hit the back of the net in the seventh minute but was called back due to an offside Gamecock. South Carolina took four corners in the first 45 minutes to the Gators’ two but were unable to connect despite close calls. The Gamecocks took six shots to Florida’s three.

On the Gamecocks’ seventh corner of the night in the 78th minute, sophomore Cuyler Zulauf initiated the set piece for South Carolina, with fifth-year Emma Bucci getting a touch on the ball off her head to give her team the 1-0 lead with her first career goal.

The scoring didn’t stop there, as fellow fifth-year Cat Barry took matters into her own hands in the 85th, sending in a massive shot to the bottom right corner of the net to help extend the Gamecocks’ lead to two. The goal was the ninth for Barry this season and the 42nd of her career. Barry can tie the second-most career goals in program history with another and move to the outright No. 2 slot with two.

The 2-0 win for the Gamecocks marked the second shutout of SEC play, and the third of junior keeper Tina Tsaousis’ career.
