No. 2 Gamecocks to Face No. 17 Demon Deacons at Stephens Cup

Carolina and Wake will square off in the consolation championship starting at 12:30 p.m. (ET) Wednesday at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club

NICHOLS HILLS, Okla. – No. 2 South Carolina will face No. 17 Wake Forest in the consolation championship match at the 2024 edition of the Stephens Cup on Wednesday. Only the top-four teams on the men’s and women’s side advance to match play. It’ll be the Gamecocks’ fourth match play appearance at the Stephens Cup with the lone title appearance coming in 2021 at The Alotian Club.

The Gamecocks finished T-4^th with No. 9 Florida State and Oklahoma State, advancing to match play via tiebreaker because of low total fifth score amongst the team’s counting five scores.

Scoring was difficult all week with firm and fast greens to alongside high winds. Carolina Chacarra of Wake Forest, the individual champion, was the only player in the 36-women field to break par, posting a 54-hole total of 206 (-4). Oregon’s Kiara Romero was runner-up medalist at even par (210).

Senior All-American Hannah Darling paced Carolina in stroke play with a 54-hole total of 222 (+12) that slotted her T-11th. She shot 73 (+3) in round two, which was her low score for the week. Darling was the only player in the field to make an eagle as she carded a three at the par-5 fifth hole in round two.

Sophomore Vairana Heck (T-13^th), All-American Louise Rydqvist (T-16^th) and sophomore Maylis Lamoure (T-19^th) also recorded top-20 finishes. Graduate Sophia Burnett finished T-26^th.
