No. 6 Gamecocks Host Delaware State on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team competes in its last meet of the regular season against Delaware State on Friday at 1 p.m. at One Wood Farm. The contest also serves as Senior Day for the Gamecocks’ nine graduating student-athletes.

Action kicks off on Friday with the senior ceremony at 12:15 at the upper arena. Those being honored include: Quinn Brandt, Madison Brayman, Kate Eagleton, Sarah Isgett, Kirklen Petersen, Hanna Powers, Madison Thiel, Lizzie van der Walde and Bridgett White.

“We are so honored to be recognizing our seniors on a bittersweet day,” head coach Boo Major said. “This group of young women have left their mark on our team for the past four years and their influence will be felt for many years to come. They have exhibited unparalleled leadership and set high standards for everyone to follow.

The Gamecocks (5-6, 1-5 SEC) look to get back on track after falling in tough rides to No. 1 Auburn (14-6), No. 2 Texas A&M (13-6) and No. 7 Georgia (13-7). Last weekend against the Bulldogs, Thiel went undefeated, scoring a 74 in Horsemanship and a 71 in Reining.

In Horsemanship, Brandt tallied the highest score of the event, 75.5, earning MOP honors for her victorious ride. Competing in Equitation on the Flat, Brayman and van der Walde also notched wins on the day. Brayman took her point with a 79 and was named MOP for the event. Van der Walde scored the highest ride on the flat, receiving an 85.

Carolina leads the all-time series against the Hornets (3-6, 3-1 UEC), 11-2. The two programs have faced off every season since 2007-08. Last year, the Gamecocks took down Delaware State, 6-2.

The Hornets come into the weekend off a victory against South Dakota State. Delaware State just edged by the Jackrabbits for a, 10-9, win in its last home meet of season.

Live scoring is available for the meet and can be found on the equestrian schedule page on gamecocksonline.com.

Admission is free to fans, but no dogs are allowed. The barn is located at 1201 Syrup Mill Road in Blythewood.
