Women Fall to Texas to SEC Championship
PENSACOLA, FL – No. 14 / fourth-seeded South Carolina women’s soccer (10-3-7) fell to conference newcomer No. 21 / three-seeded Texas (16-3-2) in the championship game of the 2024 SEC Tournament, 1-0 on Sunday.
The Gamecocks won the possession battle throughout the game and took several nail-biting chances, ones which ultimately hit the post or were inches wide. The Longhorns scored the lone goal of the game in the final minutes, netting one in off a corner kick in the 80th minute.
Three Gamecocks were named to the All-SEC Tournament Team, including forward Cat Barry, midfielder Brianna Behm, and defender Hallie Meadows.
Throughout the tournament, South Carolina outscored their opponents 7-2, and handed No. 2 / top-seeded Mississippi State their first shutout loss of the season 3-0 (Nov. 7). Barry scored three goals throughout the week, the most of any player during the tournament. Her second goal against Alabama propelled her to the No. 1 spot in the South Carolina record books for career points, and after her third she is just one goal shy of tying the program record for career goals at 50.
Junior keeper Tina Tsaousis recorded 11 saves through three games, the second-most of all keepers.
