No. 3 Gamecocks Host Top-Ranked Auburn on Equifest Kids Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team hosts its third-straight home meet and its first SEC competition of the spring against Auburn on Saturday at 10 a.m., at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.

The No. 3 Gamecocks (5-3, 1-2 SEC) go into the weekend on a four-meet win streak, recently downing then-ranked No. 6 TCU, 13-5, in their first regular-season meet of the spring. No. 1-ranked Auburn (9-0, 3-0 SEC) brings an undefeated record to the competition.

Carolina also hosts Equifest Kids Day in conjunction with Saturday’s meet. Festivities begin at 9 a.m., and include barn tours, horseshoe decorating and a chance to meet the Gamecocks. Plus, the Gamecock marketing team will be giving away a pair of Ariat boots.

“We’d love to have a big crowd out on Saturday,” head coach Boo Major said. “It’s always fun to host Equifest at One Wood in Blythewood. Please come out and watch two great teams compete. You’ll also have the opportunity to win a pair of boots and get to see the Final Four saddle given to women’s basketball when they won the National Championship. It’s also a great opportunity to see the inner workings of our farm, interact with our team and horses, and have a great day in the country.”

South Carolina looks to bring momentum from its four-event victory over TCU to its competition with the top-ranked Tigers. Against the Horned Frogs, the Gamecocks not only won all four events, but swept the MOP awards.

The Tigers blanked their last two opponents, topping UT Martin, 17-0, and South Dakota State, 20-0. So far this season, Auburn has not allowed its opponents to score more than seven points, with Oklahoma State losing the tightest meet to the Tigers, 12-7.

Carolina and Auburn last met in the fall on Friday, Sept. 28, in Auburn, Ala. In the Gamecocks’ first SEC meet of the 2018-19 season, the Tigers proved to be too much for South Carolina, falling to the No. 1 team, 18-2.

Admission to Saturday’s competition is free for fall fans. As a reminder, no dogs are allowed at the barn, and umbrellas are not allowed should it rain during the meet. The barn is located at 1201 Syrup Mill Road in Blythewood.
