Gamecocks Receive Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer has been named a recipient of the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award by the United Soccer Coaches. The award recognizes teams across the country for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.
The Gamecocks were awarded the Bronze Award for have not receiving a single red card at any time during the season (regular season and NCAA Tournament matches included) and having a yellow card percentage between 31-50 percent.
During the 2018 season, South Carolina was given a total of seven yellow cards, with just one Gamecock with multiple yellow cards. The Gamecocks are just one of two schools in the SEC to receive any level of honor from the United Soccer Coaches.
The Gamecocks earned their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament bid in 2018, the longest streak in program history, and hosted the first round for the sixth time in seven seasons.
