
Gamecocks Close Out Regular Season Against Florida
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 15 South Carolina men’s tennis team hosts No. 29 Florida at home to close out the regular season with a 5:00 p.m. match on Saturday, April 12.
Senior Casey Hoole and graduate student Connor Thomson will be honored in a brief ceremony prior to the match to commemorate their last season with the Gamecocks coming to a close.
Gamecock Notables
- Records: 16-6 (overall), 10-3 (SEC), 11-1 (home), 4-4 (away)
- The Gamecocks rank second in the SEC standings.
- South Carolina won both of its matches last week at home, upsetting then-No. 18 Tennessee 4-3 and sweeping Georgia 4-0.
- In their top 20 takedown, the Gamecocks won the doubles point with wins from Max Stenzer & Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr & Atakan Karahan from the third and second positions. Sarr (6-4, 6-0) increased the lead to 2-0 and Thomson (6-3, 6-1) got South Carolina within one of clinching when he took down No. 25 Alex Kotzen. In quick succession, Daryabeigi, Gabe Avram and Lucas da Silva dropped their matches, leaving things even at 3-3. Karahan clinched the win for the Gamecocks with a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 victory from the fourth position.
- Against the Bulldogs, the Gamecocks took the doubles point once again with wins from Stenzer & Daryabeigi (6-3) and Sarr & Karahan, who upset the No. 17 pair Thomas Paulsell and Ryan Colby 6-4. The Gamecocks were able to cruise to a win with singles victories from Sarr (6-2, 6-1), Karahan (6-3, 6-3) and Thomson (7-5, 6-1).
- Thomson (No. 27), Daryabeigi (No. 106), Sarr (No. 118) and Hoole (No. 123) represent the Gamecocks in the latest edition of the ITA rankings. In doubles, the duo of da Silva & Thomson hold strong at No. 4 while Karahan & Sarr made their way back into the rankings at a season high No. 39.
- The Gamecocks swept this week’s SEC weekly awards as Thomson picked up his second Player of the Week honor of the season while Karahan was tabbed Freshman of the Week.

- Records: 13-9 (overall), 8-5 (SEC), 9-2 (home), 3-6 (away)
- Florida is 6th in the SEC standings.
- The Gators enter the match coming off of a 4-3 loss at home to then-No. 18 Tennessee.
- Adhithya Ganesan (No. 43), Jeremy Jin (No. 73) and Magnus Johnson (No. 122) represent the Gators in the ITA rankings. Henry Jefferson & Tanapatt Nirundorn (No. 21) and Nirundorn & Ganesan (No. 82) round things out in doubles rankings.

- The Gators lead the all-time series against the Gamecocks 34-7. South Carolina last beat Florida in the 2023 regular season finale.
