Gamecocks Announce 2018 Cross Country Schedule
Carolina set to travel to some familiar and new places in the upcoming season
Columbia, S.C. —- South Carolina’s 2018 cross country schedule includes a trip for the third-straight year to the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational as well as one home meet to open the year, head coach Andrew Allden announced today.
“We’ve got some new places on the schedule that will be interesting for us,” Allden said. “It’s exciting to have the NCAA Regional Final back in South Carolina after an absence of many years. Having it right up the street from us is a significant advantage to us.
“When I look at our season, there aren’t any easy meets. Pretty much every meet we’re going to will have a good, solid deep field which I think will help prepare us for the demands of the regional and conference meets.”
The Gamecocks return to Sandhill on Sat., Sept. 1 to open the season, inviting in other teams from the region for the Carolina Challenge. This will be the only chance for Carolina fans to see the Gamecocks in the Columbia area in 2018.
Carolina stays close to home with its second meet, traveling to Rock Hill, S.C., for the 35thInvitational at Winthrop on Set. 15. From there, the Gamecocks head North for the 63rdannual Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 28.
The Gamecocks return to the Palmetto State in October with a trip to Charleston for the Charleston Classic on Oct. 6 before heading North once more for the Princeton Classic on Oct. 10.
South Carolina will compete in its 28thSEC Championship in Auburn, AL., on Oct. 26. The Southeast Regional Championship is set for Nov. 9 as the Gamecocks return to Rock Hill, S.C.
