USA Basketball to Hold Camp and Exhibition at South Carolina
Three Gamecock alumnae are currently part of the U.S. National Team pool who will attend camp.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 2018 USA Basketball Women’s National Team, led by South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley, will tip off its journey to the 2018 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Columbia, S.C., where fans will be able to cheer on the U.S. in a Red-White intrasquad exhibition contest at Colonial Life Arena on Sept. 5, at 7 p.m.
“Of course, I’m excited to play a game here in Columbia,” Staley said. “Our fans have affinity for women’s basketball. I hope to see that same excitement in September. I know it’s a prelude to hopefully what will be a great season for our Gamecocks, but to see what’s going to take place in our arena in September will be quite exciting for them. I know they’ll come out in huge numbers to support our national team.”
Selected available members of the 2017-20 USA National Team pool, which includes Gamecock alumnae Allisha Gray, Tiffany Mitchell and A’ja Wilson, will open training camp Sept. 3 at the University of South Carolina. It will be the second training camp held in Columbia since Staley was named U.S. National Team head coach.
Following their time in Columbia, the team will travel up the coast to Bridgeport, Conn., to face Canada in a 7 p.m. game on Sept. 8 at Webster Bank Arena. The U.S. National Team will close out its domestic tour against Japan at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Georgia Washington University’s Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

Tickets for the intrasquad exhibition in Columbia will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thu., July 19, and can also be purchased at the Lexington Medical Center box Office inside Colonial Life Arena.
Prior to arriving in Tenerife, Canary Islands, for the Sept. 22-30 FIBA World Cup, the USA will play in a four-team, international tournament in Antibes, France, Sept. 15-17.

Members of the USA National Team pool who are participating in the 2018 WNBA Finals will not be available for the beginning of the camp, but may be added at a later date.
