Gamecocks Host Ohio State for Ranked Matchup

COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 16 South Carolina women’s soccer team (2-0-0) is set to host the No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes (0-0-1) for the first time in program history on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. for the first-ranked matchup of the 2025 season. The game will be televised live on SEC Network.

LAST TIME OUT

South Carolina defeated the University of South Florida in its first game at Stone Stadium of the 2025 season, 3-1. Sophomore Katie Shea Collins powered the Gamecocks to a win with a second-half brace.

South Carolina got on the board quickly, thanks to a goal by senior Kinley Brown in the ninth minute. Junior Amanda Patrick got the assist with a cross into traffic that Brown one-timed past the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season. The Gamecocks held the lead going into halftime, but the Bulls leveled the score in the 53rd minute on a play inside the six-yard box.

Collins reclaimed the lead for the Garnet and Black in the 63rd minute. She got the rebound off of a blocked shot by sophomore Madden McDonald, who earned the assist, and the first point of her career. South Carolina got some insurance in the 81st minute when Collins beat out the back line and goalkeeper on the run. Freshman Mackenzie Johnson got the assist with a pass from midfield, the first of her career.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES

Thursday’s meeting is the second in program history against Ohio State. Last season, the Gamecocks visited the Buckeyes and left with a 1-1 tie. The Gamecocks’ lone goal came from Junior Cuyler Zulauf late in the match to level the score. The goal was the first of Zulauf’s career.

Ohio State opened its season against Clemson with a 1-1 tie at home. Junior forward Amanda Schlueter scored in the 82nd minute for her 17th career goal.
