South Carolina Women's Soccer Starts Road Trip with 2-0 Win
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 10 South Carolina women’s soccer team (6-0-1) defeated American University (0-5-1) on Thursday afternoon, 2-0. A brace from freshman Mackenzie Johnson powered the Gamecocks to a win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- South Carolina got into a rhythm early, and Johnson scored her third goal of the season to give South Carolina the lead in the 12th minute. Senior Micah Bryant crossed the ball from the left side of the field, perfectly placed in the air for Johnson’s header into the back of the net
- Senior goalkeeper Tina Tsaousis kept the Eagles off the scoreboard when she leaped to punch a shot away from the goal in the 41st minute
- The Gamecocks added to their lead in the 56th minute when Johnson scored her second goal of the match on a shot into the lower left corner of the net
- Johnson leads the team with four goals on the season
- South Carolina took a season-high 10 corner kicks
- The Gamecocks outshot the Eagles 21 to 3
- The win keeps South Carolina undefeated at 6-0-1
