Gamecocks Shut Out Rebels in SEC Home Opener
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 15 South Carolina women’s soccer (8-1-1, 2-0-0) defeated the Ole Miss Rebels (4-2-1, 0-1-1) (on Thursday night, 4-0. A hat trick by Katie Shea Collins powered the Gamecocks to a win at Stone Stadium. It was the first time the Rebels have been shutout this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- South Carolina started off strong with sophomore Katie Shea Collins scoring in the first minute (0:58), the seventh fastest goal in program history. She also holds the program record for the second fastest at 0:34 (Aug. 18, 2024 vs. Furman).
- Collins’ first-half hat trick was the 11th program hat trick and the third of her career. She now holds the record for most hat tricks in the program’s history.
- Collins now leads the team with seven goals and 15 points on the season.
- Sophomore keeper Emma Kirlin kept the Rebels at bay, recording a career-high five saves in the shutout win.
- South Carolina is now 8-0-0 when scoring first this season.
- Following the Gamecocks’ 25th match against the Rebels, South Carolina leads the all-time series 14-6-5.
