Gamecocks Continue Weekend with Seven More Wins

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis picked up seven total wins across two tournaments on Saturday. On the second day of the Carolina Classic, the Gamecocks earned three singles and three doubles victories. At the ITA All-American Championships, the Garnet & Black earned one doubles win.

Carolina Classic

Max Stenzer made it to the finals round of the flight one singles, advancing through the semifinals after a 6-2, 6-2 win over the No. 1 seed Wissam Abderrahman from UCF. The sophomore is slated to face the No. 2 seed Ian Mayew of UNC tomorrow. Charlie Swaine fought through a three set battle, 6(3)-7, 6-4, 6-2, topping South Carolina State’s Mikalai Bankou in the semifinals of the north draw stage. Gabe Avram competed in the same stage, dominantly defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the finals where he will face teammate Swaine tomorrow.

In the first day of doubles, the Gamecocks’ victories came from flight B. Atakan Karahan and Cole Henceroth teamed up to defeat a pair from Columbia University 8-3, advancing to the semifinals where they picked up their second win of the day – a 8-6 victory over the No. 1 seeded duo Clement Lemire and Luca Hotze from UCF. After their solid singles performances, Avram and Swaine earned a doubles win together over the No. 2 seeded Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer of UNC, defeating the Tar Heels 8-4. The two later fell 8-2 in the semifinals.

ITA All-American Championships

Seventh seeded Sean Daryabeigi and Lucas da Silva cruised past their opponents in the round of 32 open doubles, winning 6-2, 6-3. The Gamecocks are slated to face a duo from UNC Charlotte in the round of 16.

The Carolina Classic concludes on Sunday with one round of singles and one of doubles following a 9 a.m. first serve. Fans can follow the tournament full draws/results or live video. The second and final day of prequalifying  for ITA All-American Championships continues tomorrow. Live streaming will be available on Track Tennis and live scoring on Score Buzzer. Additionally, Cracked Racquets will have a live stream covering the main draw matches.
