COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 12th-seeded Alex Hamilton defeated George Zahringer of New York, N.Y. 1-up to advance to second round match play at the 103rd U.S. Amateur Championship. A native of Aiken, S.C., Hamilton will face 21st-seeded James Vargas tomorrow at 8:25 a.m. EDT.

The winner of the Hamilton-Vargas match will advance to the quarterfinals and tee-off at 1:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The 103rd U.S. Amateur Championship is being played at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
