Gamecocks Drop Road Contest to No. 25 Wildcats
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (7-5-2, 1-2-2) dropped its road match at No. 25 Kentucky (7-2-3, 4-1) 2-1 Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19).
Filip Versterre made a career-high nine saves in the match for Carolina.
The Gamecocks were held without a shot in the first half, but they were able to put home the first goal of the day. Ethan Ballek was awarded a penalty kick in the 61st minute and buried it into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
The lead was short-lived as the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick of their own and converted in the 67th minute.
Kentucky netted the game-winner in the 81st minute on a shot inside the left post.
For the night, UK held an advantage in shots (21-5), shots on goal (11-3) and corner kicks (14-2).
South Carolina continues its road trip when it travels to No. 12 Marshall Wednesday at 7 p.m.
