Early Goal Not Enough for Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (7-7-2, 1-4-2) fell 3-1 to Coastal Carolina (3-8, 2-5) Sunday night (Oct. 26) at Stone Stadium.

The Gamecocks held the advantage 16-to-8 on shots while shots on goal were tied 6-6. Both teams were even on the night in corner kicks with five.

Tyler Trimnal put the Gamecocks on the board first, scoring his fourth goal of the season in the 8th minute. Mika Habel sailed a shot from past the 18 and deflected off the head of Trimnal for the Gamecock goal. Coastal responded just two minutes later to tie the match in the 10th minute.

The Chanticleers pulled ahead with a goal in the 64th minute off a deflection. Ten minutes later, Coastal sank another for the 3-1 lead where it would remain the rest of the match.

South Carolina goalkeeper Filip Versterre finished the night with three saves.

Carolina heads on its last road match of the regular season Halloween night for a 7 p.m. match at No. 20 Georgia Southern.
