Gamecocks Prepped for SEC Tournament Opener

PENSACOLA, FL – The No. 22 Gamecock women’s soccer team (10-3-5, 4-2-4) is set to kick off the 2025 SEC Tournament, facing Alabama on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 12:30 EST for the first game of the week. South Carolina enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed, with the Tide as the No. 10 seed. The game will be shown live on SEC Network.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks fell 1-0 to No. 10 Vanderbilt (Oct. 26), closing out the regular season. It was the Gamecocks’ first loss at home after going undefeated in Stone Stadium.

Vanderbilt got on the board first in the 17th minute, giving the Commodores an early 1-0 advantage. The Gamecocks responded defensively, with senior goalkeeper Christina Tsaousis making two crucial saves to keep the match close going into the half.

Despite South Carolina reclaiming possession battles in the second 45, and three nail-biting attempts from Reagan Schubach and Maggie Taitano

Tsaousis finished the afternoon with five saves, while South Carolina recorded five shots and one corner.

SCOUTING THE TIDE

Sunday’s matchup with Alabama will be the 27th overall, and the second this season. It will also mark a rematch of the 2022 SEC Championship game, which the Gamecocks won 1-0 for their third SEC Tournament Title. The Gamecocks have won the last four matchups, and lead the overall series 20-5-1. The two teams last met for this year’s SEC play opener, with South Carolina bringing home a 2-1 win.

SEC TOURNAMENT HISTORY

2025 marks the 20th consecutive season the Gamecocks have made the tournament, with 22 overall appearances. South Carolina has made appearances in the championship game five times, including the most recent season in 2024 (prev. 2009, 2010, 2019, 2022). The Gamecocks are 16-9-6 all-time in the tournament.
