Gamecocks Close out Regular Season with Ole Miss and No. 4 Texas

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball team (9-14, 3-10 SEC) wraps up the 2025 regular season this week, starting with a home match against Ole Miss (12-12, 4-9 SEC) on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. The Gamecocks then head to Austin for a 2:00 p.m. (ET) first serve at No. 4 Texas (19-2, 11-2 SEC) on Sunday, Nov. 16.

WEEK ELEVEN NOTABLES

  • The Gamecocks fell 3-0 to LSU last Friday at home
  • Victoria Hill led the team with 11 kills, marking her first time reaching double digits since Sept. 15
  • Victoria Harris backed the defense, leading the team with 13 digs – her 18th match of the season in double digits for that category
  • Two Gamecocks, Kimmie Thompson (14) and Sarah Jordan (11) had double digit assists. Jordan has reached double digit assists at all but one match this season
  • The team put up eight blocks, backed by Laiya Ebo and Emily Beeker with four apiece
  • For current stat leaders, Nia Hall leads in kills (237), Sarah Jordan leads in assists (427), Victoria Hill leads in aces (20), Victoria Harris leads in digs (351) and Emily Beeker leads in blocks (94)
  • Harris ranks fourth in the conference for digs per set (4.08) while Beeker ranks 11th for blocks per set (1.11)

SCOUTING THE REBELS

Ole Miss sits just above South Carolina in the SEC standings with four wins over conference opponents. The Rebels enter Wednesday’s match after sweeping Georgia last Friday in Athens. 2025 AVCA Player of the Year Watch List mention Gabi Placide led the team with 18 kills, hitting .324. She poses as the teams biggest offensive threat,  leading the team with 427 this season which ranks second in the conference and 13th in the NCAA. Placide averages 4.69 kills per set which has her at third in the SEC and 13th in the nation. She also ranks amongst the top players in the nation for points per set (5.40 – first in SEC, ninth in NCAA) and attacks per set (12.18 – first in the SEC and 11th in the nation). She was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season after having two matches with more than 25 kills. Libero Cammy Niesen picked up the Rebels second SEC Weekly Honor yesterday, being named Defensive Player of the Week. Niesen leads the team’s defensive efforts with 389 digs this season which ranks second in the SEC. She averages 4.23 per set which also has her tabbed at second in the conference.

South Carolina leads the series record 33-25. The last matchup between the two programs was on Oct. 18, 2024 in Columbia when the Gamecocks fell 3-0.

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS

No. 4 Texas was 17-0 on the season until Texas A&M spoiled its record in a 3-2 victory over the Longhorns  before Kentucky followed up with a 3-0 sweep two days later. Texas got back into the win category after defeating Florida 3-1 and will face Auburn on Wednesday before hosting South Carolina. The Longhorns’ strength comes from their offense as the team leads the nation in kills per set with 15.00 and ranks second with a .308 hitting percentage. Torrey Stafford is the program’s top kill leader with 337 this season and 4.43 per set (ranks sixth in the SEC and 23rd in the NCAA). Cari Spears, who has been named SEC Freshman of the Week five times this season, follows closely with 266 kills and ranks 15th in the conference with 3.50 per set. Ella Swindle, who has been named SEC Setter of the Week three times this season, leads in assists with 677 and 9.27 per set – a mark that ranks eighth in the conference. Emma Halter backs the defense with 274 total digs.

Texas leads the series record 2-0. The last matchup between the two programs was on Oct. 2, 2024 in Austin when the Longhorns swept the Gamecocks 3-0.
