Gamecocks Look to Continue Historical Run at Regionals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Nov. 13, 2025) – South Carolina Cross Country is set to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
The women’s 6K will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. Live results for the race can be found here.
MOVING ON
The Gamecocks have put together a historical season, finishing on the podium in all five events, including the SEC Championship when South Carolina finished third for the best finish in program history. The Garnet & Black now look to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championship for the first time in school history. The top two teams from each regional will automatically qualify for the championship that will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo. There are nine regional meets with 18 automatic qualifying teams before a subcommittee will select 14 at-large teams to fill the remainder of the field. Individually, the first four finishers in each regional who are not an automatic qualifier or belong to an at-large team will advance to the championship, as long as they are a top 25 finisher. Two additional individuals will be chosen at-large, who are the highest placing individuals at a regional that were not automatic qualifiers.
PARTICIPATING TEAMS
There will be a total of 42 teams running in the Southeast Regional tomorrow, the largest field that South Carolina has faced this season. NC State holds the top ranking in the Southeast Regional as well as the second overall ranking in the national poll. North Carolina (No. 13 nationally) sits second in the regional ranking, just one spot ahead of regional host Virginia who ranks 16th in the national Top 25. South Carolina is the top ranked SEC squad in the Southeast Regional ranking, sitting at No. 4 as well as No. 20 nationally.
WRITING HISTORY
The Gamecocks have been gaining momentum all season, but it all came to fruition at the SEC Championship, where they posted their best finish in program history. They earned their fifth podium finish of the season, claiming the bronze in a competitive field. Additionally, Salma Elbadra capped off the best individual finish at the SEC Championship in program history, crossing the finish line in 20:01.4 to place fifth with the fourth fastest 6K in school history.
REGIONAL RESULTS
South Carolina is looking for its first top 10 finish at the regional meet since 2012 when the Gamecocks finished 10th in Charlottesville, Va. South Carolina has only sent one individual runner to the NCAA Championship in program history, and it looks to add to that mark this weekend. Judy Kosgei was the lone representative in 2023, finishing 19th overall and earning USTFCCCA All-American nods.
LINING UP FRIDAY
South Carolina will send eight student-athletes to represent the Garnet & Black tomorrow. Those running will be Anya Arroyo, Jade Buridon, Teresa Cherotich, Cate Conklin, Salma Elbadra, Abir Reffas and Abigail White. Mary Frances Iseman will be on deck as the alternate.
