March 20, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina women’s soccer standout Kaleigh Kurtz has been named to the North Carolina Courage’s updated roster for the 2018 NWSL Season, the club announced Monday.
Kurtz, who played as a center back for the Gamecocks from 2014-16, was selected to the team as a preseason invitee. The defender will be reunited with former Gamecock star Sabrina D’Angelo (2011-14), one of two goalkeepers for North Carolina.
The Courage kick off their 2018 campaign this weekend when they host the Portland Thorns at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. The match, which gets underway at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sat., March 24, will air on Lifetime.
Kurtz appeared in all 69 matches for the Gamecocks during her time at Carolina, starting every game over her final two seasons. She collected United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-America honors in 2016 after helping the Gamecocks post the lowest single-season goals against average (0.41) in program history. The Greer, S.C., native and 2016 SEC Defensive Player of the Year was also tabbed a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in her senior season.
