Rich Named A 2018 AllState SEC Basketball Legend

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Southeastern Conference released its 2018 Allstate SEC Basketball Legends on Wednesday, and it was announced that Gamecock great Carey Rich (1993-95) has been selected as South Carolina’s representative this season.
Featuring former greats from all 14 SEC member institutions, the Allstate® SEC Basketball Legends will be honored at the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament March 7-11 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. Each legend will be recognized at halftime of his institution’s first game at the tournament.
Carey Rich lettered for the Gamecocks in 1993, 1994 and 1995. He scored 784 career points and dished 340 assists playing in 79 career games. He ranks sixth all-time in Carolina history with 4.30 assists per game, and his 5.16 assists per game during the 1994 season rank seventh in Gamecock history for a single season. As a senior, he averaged 13.4 points, leading the team in scoring. He also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in his final year in the Garnet and Black. He served as team captain in the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. Rich is very involved in basketball and events locally in Columbia. He was also inducted into the Richland One Hall of Fame in Columbia in January.
Along with Rich, the 2018 class includes James Robinson (Alabama), Jonathon Modica (Arkansas), Joel Eaves (Auburn), David Lee (Florida), Chad Kessler (Georgia), Joe Crawford (Kentucky), John Brady (LSU), Rob Evans (Ole Miss), Ray White (Mississippi State), Doug Smith (Missouri), Howard Wood (Tennessee), Barry Davis (Texas A&M) and Godfrey Dillard (Vanderbilt).
This marks the 20th year of the SEC Basketball Legends program.
