No. 18 Gamecocks Begin Moon Golf Invitational Sunday

South Carolina Athletics

Sophomore All-American Eila Galitsky looks to defend her individual title from last season this week at Suntree Country Club

MELBOURNE, Fla. – No. 18 South Carolina is back on the course starting Sunday at the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 15-17). The Gamecocks took third at the event last season on the heels of the first collegiate victory for All-American Eila Galitsky.

She shot 211 (-5) and sunk a 35-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat world No. 1 amateur Lottie Woad of Florida State in what was just her second start at South Carolina after enrolling mid-year. Galitksy shot 211 (-5) at Suntree Country Club with a final round 69 (-3) to make a charge up the leaderboard and force extra holes for medalist honors.

She’s joined in the lineup this week by junior Vairana Heck, junior Maylis Lamoure, freshman Molly McLean and senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand. Heck has had a solid season so far with three top-20 finishes leading the team with a T-9th finish at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge to open the spring back on Feb. 3. Sandtorv Lussand is making her lineup debut this season after competing as an individual in the spring opener.

It’s a another loaded field of competition for the Gamecocks per usual this week with 12 of the 17 teams ranked in the Clippd Top-25. South Carolina will be one of 10 teams from the SEC competing.

Sandtorv Lussand will be the first player off for the Gamecocks Sunday at 9:40 a.m. (ET) from hole one. Carolina is paired with No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 8 Auburn for the opening round. Live scoring will be available via Clippd here.
