No. 18 Gamecocks Finish 11th at Moon Golf Invitational

Carolina closed strong again this week with a 285 (-3) in the final round, one of just two teams to post a red number the final 18 holes

MELBOURNE, Fla. – No. 18 South Carolina finished 11^th in a strong, 17-team field at the Moon Golf Invitational on Tuesday. The Gamecocks shot 888 (+24) over the course of three days. The team’s 285 (-3) today was one of just two, red number team scores over the final 18 holes of the event. No. 8 Auburn, the team champion at 7-under overall, shot a field-best 6-under today en route to victory.

Junior Maylis Lamoure and sophomore All-American Eila Galitsky each made a steady climb up the leaderboard with 2-under 70s in round three to pace Carolina. Lamoure made four birdies with the only blemish on her scorecard a double-bogey at the par-4 15^th hole. Galitsky had three birdies and just one bogey today.

Junior Vairana Heck and Lamoure paced the team this week with T-25^th finishes at 4-over for the tournament. Heck shot 72-76-72 at Suntree Country Club. Senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand closed with her best round of the week today with a 1-over 73 that featured a pair of birdies. She was making her first start of the season in the lineup this week.

Twelve of the 17 teams in the field at the Moon Golf Invitaitoonal were ranked in the top-25 of the latest Clippd Top-25 Poll.

The Gamecocks will have a brief break before hosting the annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate March 2-4 at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C. Per usual, admission is free for all spectators. Click here for more information on the event regarding parking and trolley shuttle services.
