Gamecocks Fall to Texas A&M on Saturday

Feb. 10, 2018

MEET #7 — Texas A&M 12, Carolina 6

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — The eighth-ranked University of South Carolina equestrian team fell to No. 2 Texas A&M on Saturday, 12-6, at One Wood Farm. Paisley Roberts (reining) and Madison Brayman (equitation on the flat) collected MOP honors for the Gamecocks.

With the loss, the Gamecocks fall to 2-5 (0-4 SEC), while the Aggies improve to 8-3 (3-1 SEC)

The Aggies took three points in horsemanship to start the day, with Carolina earning one. The lone Gamecock tally came from Megan Overberg, a 74-67.5 winner over Bailey Cook on Skeeto.

Two Gamecocks won points in equitation on the flat. Brayman collected MOP honors with an 80-70 win over Maddie Swem on Toby. Lizzie van der Walde added a 68-64 win on Chip over Alex Desiderio, but the Aggies led midway through the meet, 6-3.

The Aggies clinched the match by winning four of the five points in equitation over fences. Brayman was the lone Carolina winner, earning her second point of the day with an 87-86 win over Rhian Murphy on Batman.

Carolina capped the day with two points in reining. Roberts took the MOP award with a 69.5-68 win over Ashton Dunkel on Magnum, while Bailey Walters finished the meet by defeating Haley Franc on Paddy, 67.5-63.5.

NOTABLE

• Brayman’s MOP win is her second as a Gamecock, both on the flat.
• Roberts won an MOP award for the first time this season and the third time as a collegian.

FROM THE COACH

“I thought Paisley Roberts had a great ride. I think Bailey Walters had a great ride at the end in reining. I also thought that Bridgett White had a great ride. Our reiners as a whole are riding strong, so we’ve got to try to keep them riding strong and try to get a little bit stronger, and I think on the hunt seat side certainly Madison Brayman is a very solid performer. She came off of two tough losses last week at SMU, so I was really pleased with her bouncing back and being able to get the job done. She rode extremely well today.”– Head Coach Boo Major

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

The Gamecocks host Georgia next Saturday at One Wood Farm. It’s Equifest Kids Day, with the meet beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
