Former Goalkeeper Maurer Inks Pro Deal With FC Dallas

Dec. 18, 2017

DALLAS, Texas — Former Gamecock men’s soccer standout Jimmy Maurer was signed by FC Dallas of Major League Soccer the club announced on Monday. Maurer comes to the Toros after spending the past five seasons with the New York Cosmos (2013-17) of the North American Soccer League.

The 29-year-old helped lead New York to back back-to-back NASL championships in 2015 and 2016. He was named to the NASL Best XI in 2014. He started 25 games for the Cosmos in 2017 and finished the season with a record of 9-5-11 and a 1.48 goals against average.

FC Dallas previously signed Maurer on loan for a match against Montreal on July 22. Maurer backed up FC Dallas starter Chris Seitz in the 2-1 win against the Impact while Jesse Gonzalez was on international duty with the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Maurer started all 78 matches of his four-year career at Carolina (2007-10). He’s the program’s all-time minutes leader (7,280) and shutouts leader (28). His 318 career saves are second only to Henry Ring (1997-2000). As a Gamecock, he posted a 4-0 record against in-state rival Clemson, shutting out the Tigers in all four matches. Maurer helped lead the team to 13 wins as a senior in 2010 and a berth in the round of 16 of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
