Men's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis head coach Josh Goffi announced his team’s spring schedule on Thursday. The Gamecocks host eight home events, and their schedule features six top-25 opponents and eight 2017 NCAA Championship qualifiers.

South Carolina hosts The Citadel in its first competition of 2018, opening the season January 13.

The ITA Kickoff Weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C., gives the Gamecocks the opportunity to compete for a spot at the National Indoor Championships, which take place February 16-17 in Seattle, Wash. South Carolina faces Michigan, ranked No. 17 at the end of the 2017 season, in the first round on Friday, January 26.

The Gamecocks look to advance to the next round to play the winner of Drake/North Carolina’s matchup on Saturday. South Carolina took on North Carolina in last season’s NCAA Championships, falling to them in the second round. North Carolina went on to compete in the National Championship final.

South Carolina returns home on Friday, February 2, to host Charlotte and South Carolina State. The Gamecocks have the advantage both series, leading Charlotte 19-1 and South Carolina State 6-0. South Carolina also earned two individual wins over Charlotte in this fall’s ITA Regionals.

In their third home competition of the year, the Gamecocks begin Southeastern Conference play against Tennessee on Friday, March 2. The same weekend, South Carolina hosts reigning SEC Champions, Georgia, on Sunday, March 4, for an exciting SEC kick-off weekend.

The Gamecocks host four other SEC matches in the spring, including Arkansas and Ole Miss, which finished the 2017 season ranked No. 38 and No. 27, respectively on March 23 and 25, and Florida, 2017’s 14th-ranked team, on April 1.

South Carolina wraps up the regular season with two exciting matches. First, the Gamecocks host Alabama on April 15 before traveling to Clemson for its leg of the Palmetto Series on April 15.

The post-season begins with the SEC Championships on April 25-29 In Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Gamecocks look to qualify for the NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive season. The 2018 NCAA Regionals will be held at various host sites May 4-6 with winners at each site advancing to the NCAA Championships. The 2018 NCAA Championships will be held in Wake Forest, N.C., from May 11-13.
