Pyle Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week
Nov. 6, 2017
IRVING, Texas — South Carolina men’s soccer senior goalkeeper William Pyle was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It’s his second player of the week honor this season and the fourth of his career.
Pyle, who has been outstanding between the posts all season for the Gamecocks, notched six saves in the team’s 1-0 shutout of UAB on Friday, Nov. 3 on the road in Birmingham. The clean sheet was Pyle’s third of the season and the 12th of his career. With the victory, Carolina punched its ticket to the 2017 C-USA Tournament in Norfolk and head coach Mark Berson notched his 500th career win – becoming just the fourth coach in NCAA Division I Men’s soccer history to accomplish the feat.
Pyle, a three-year starter who has played in all 16 of the team’s matches this season, led C-USA goalies in saves (83) and saves per game (5.19) during the regular season. His 83 stops are a new single-season career-high. The Charlotte, N.C., native, matched his single-game career-high of eight saves twice the regular season in road matches at No. 2 Wake Forest and Charlotte.
