Grace Fisk Selected As SEC Defensive Player Of The Week

Oct. 16, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore center back Grace Fisk has been selected as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. The accolade marks the first weekly conference honor for the Bromley, London, native.

Fisk earned the start and played all 90 minutes in Carolina’s 3-0 victory over Vanderbilt Sunday. She anchored a back line that limited the Commodores to three shots for the game and just one attempt on frame.

The defender has started six of seven conference games for a Gamecock team that boasts a clean sheet in all but one league match this season. Carolina has yet to allow more than three shots on goal in SEC action, and its 0.49 goals against average and 10 shutouts on the year rank first among conference members.

Fisk and the No. 3 Gamecocks (13-1-0, 7-0-0) put an 11-match winning streak on the line on Thu., Oct. 19, when they face Missouri on the road. Kickoff from Audrey J. Walton Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the match can be seen on SEC Network+.
