Bahr, Krzeczowski Receive SEC Weekly Honors

Sept. 11, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore forward Elexa Bahr and sophomore goalkeeper Mikayla Krzeczowski each earned SEC Player of the Week accolades, the league announced Monday afternoon. Bahr was selected as the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Krzeczowski was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.

Monday marked the first weekly conference honor for Bahr, who tallied the game-winner in Carolina’s 1-0 win over No. 4 Clemson this past Friday (Sept. 8). Krzeczowski has been recognized as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week in each of the last two installments of the award.

Bahr’s pivotal goal against the Tigers came in the 17th minute after the striker received a well-placed through ball from senior Savannah McCaskill. The second-year forward collected the pass in the box and slotted the ball home from short range to put the Gamecocks in front early. Bahr leads Carolina with four goals in 2017, and her two game-winners also rank first on the team.

Krzeczowski totaled five saves in last week’s win over the Tigers. Four of her five stops came in the first half against a Clemson team that entered Friday’s contest unbeaten on the year. The Douglasville, Ga., native’s performance marked her fourth shutout of the season and improved her mark to 6-1-0 on the year. Two of her four clean sheets have come on the road.

The pair of Carolina sophomore standouts and the No. 7 Gamecocks (6-1) return to action on Fri., Sept. 15, when they open SEC play at home against Alabama. Kickoff from Stone Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match can be seen on SEC Network+ through WatchESPN.
